I am a teacher and really appreciate the kind thoughts! The truth is . . .most teachers care deeply about the students they teach. To have their students succeed and become independent is the goal of most educators. Sadly, the blame falls on these same people that are the ones who, in many cases, care the most! I reported to my first day of work this past year in a high school in the city. Many of the students could not read. Unfortunately, there are those who will judge my success and effectiveness as a teacher by the test scores of these students. In most professions, this biased and unproductive method of assessment would never be tolerated. Thanks for the chance to talk!!!

Teachers spend about 7 hours a day, 180 days per year with their students but the expectation is that we will fix all the problems within that time period. We will not see improvements in education until there is a collaboration and support between parents, teachers and school systems.

Wow. Just wow. I’ve heard that before too, how undereducated students that come out are because they’re being taught to tests, and the teachers are being underpaid and under appreciated. 80% of your faculty are adjunct? Crazy. Education has really become a broken system

That just sucks. Promises of jobs and a need for teachers, and then bam! Funding cut.
